چکیده

The present study investigates the impact of assimilation satellite derived soil wetness data from Advanced Scatterometer (ASCAT) on simulation inland moving monsoon depressions (MDs) over Indian region using high resolution NCUM-R forecasting system. simplified Extended Kalman Filter (sEKF) based Land Surface Data Assimilation (LSDA) system is used to create land surface moisture initial conditions for by assimilating ASCAT (SM) along with screen level observations. Two numerical experiments, namely CTL (incorporating only observations in LSDA) and (assimilating both SM are carried out update model conditions. Identical atmospheric condition prepared considering 4DVAR technique experiments. results this show that remotely sensed has a beneficial MD simulation, its movement, structure associated precipitation. analysis increment fluxes experiment clearly shows properly coupled positive feedback between atmosphere. vicinity considerably improved as compared well correlated observed rainfall regions. root mean square error top layer decreased 5 15% analyses analyses. land-atmosphere coupling investigated Dirmeyer's indices, it noticed precipitation modulated latent heat flux higher than simulation. This improvement due proper representation into LSDA. contribution individual terms vorticity equation total tendency represented during various phases MD. Overall, indicates use preparation helps improve forecast MDs regional NWP

ASCAT Soil Moisture

This report presents a proposal for a new discrete global grid (DGG) that is recommended for implementation within IPF's software for processing scatterometer data and generating soil moisture products. The new grid is to improve the current adapted sinusoidal grid used within WARP4.0. An overview of the three main methods for implementing DGG'S; partitioning, tiling and subdivision, is present...

Improving runoff prediction through the assimilation of the ASCAT soil moisture product

The role and the importance of soil moisture for meteorological, agricultural and hydrological applications is widely known. Remote sensing offers the unique capability to monitor soil moisture over large areas (catchment scale) with, nowadays, a temporal resolution suitable for hydrological purposes. However, the accuracy of the remotely sensed soil moisture estimates has to be carefully check...

Improving the clay, silt and sand of soil prediction by removing the influence of moisture on reflectance using EPO

Moisture is one of the most important factors that affects soil reflectance spectra. Time and spatial variability of soil moisture leads to reducing the capability of spectroscopy in soil properties estimation. Developing a method that could lessen the effect of moisture on soil properly prediction using spectrometry, is necessary. This paper utilises an external parameter orthogonalisation (EP...

Comparing soil moisture retrievals from SMOS and ASCAT over France

The first products derived over France in 2010 from the L-band brightness temperatures (Tb) measured by the SMOS (Soil Moisture and Ocean Salinity) satellite, launched in November 2009, were compared with the surface soil moisture (SSM) estimates produced by the C-band Advanced Scatterometer, ASCAT, launched in 2006 on board METOP-A. SMOS and ASCAT SSM products were compared with the simulation...
